Checklist for Your Russian Visa Application

PRIVATE VISA (VISITS TO RELATIVES OR FRIENDS)

If you are going to visit Russia to stay with your relatives or friends you should first obtain an official invitation and only then apply for a Private visa. We only accept original invitation documents issued by an appropriate Russian Federation Migration Service branch. To obtain such an invitation your relatives or friends are to present to the said branch a photocopy of your passport and personal data. Having received this invitation you should apply at the Russia Visa Application Centre.

BUSINESS VISA/ HUMANITARIAN VISA

A Business visa is required in case you wish to enter Russia on business. The following documents should be submitted at the Russian Visa Application Centre. Business visa is issued for travelers who visit Russia on business. Business visas to the Russian Federation may be issued up to two entries and valid up to 90 days. There are also multiple-entry business visas, valid for 6 or 12 months with unlimited entries/exits.
A Humanitarian visa is required in case you wish to enter Russia for cultural purposes, science, sports, religion etc. and may be issued up to two entries and valid up to 90 days. There are also multiple-entry business visas, valid for 6 or 12 months with unlimited entries/exits.

TRANSIT VISA

If you are going to transit via Russia to any other country you need a Transit Visa. However, a Transit Visa is not required if you remain in the transit zone of the airport in order to catch an onward or connecting flight within 24 hours of arrival. Transit visas are normally valid for maximum of 3 days if you are traveling by plane and 10 days if traveling by Train/Coach. For the applicants traveling by car, the Transit visa would be issued based on the fastest journey to the destination. The average daily distance to be covered by car should not be less than 500 km.

Visa requirements depending on an applicant's nationality:

The requirements can vary depending on applicant's nationality. NON UK citizens might need to submit some additional documentations applying for a visa from United Kingdom.

  1. French passport holders should additionally enclose copies of their bank statement for the last three months, travel insurance valid in Russia and a copy of their return tickets, along with a letter from their company / organization.
  2. Citizens of Australia, Turkmenistan and USA cannot apply for the next day visa unless they have a residence permit or long term work or student visa in the United Kingdom. The visa processing time for these citizens will take from 10 to 14 calendar days under normal circumstances.
  3. Citizens of the particular states of the Schengen zone (Austria, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Finland, France, Germany, Estonia) and Israel passport holders should submit an insurance policy for the whole period of their stay in Russia. The policy document should show the validity for the duration of the journey as well as indicate the geographical area coverage as worldwide/including Russia. Copies of insurance cards are not admissible. If covered by Company insurance, a signed letter on the Company letterhead clearly confirming the validity of the insurance in Russia for the entire duration of the journey would suffice.

A visa can be issued only if an applicant submits all the required documents. Submission of an incomplete set of documents may result in refusal of visa and return of documents to the applicant.

A visa cannot be exchanged or extended. If an applicant's travel plan changes after the visa has been issued they shall reapply for a new visa.
